THINKING, FAST AND SLOW

By Daniel Kahneman

The daddy of behavioural science, Nobel-prize winner Daniel Kahneman walks through 25 years of research into how we make decisions.

Specifically he goes into detail about the two systems the brain has for processing information.

System 1 is the automatic, unconscious assessments we make of people and situations.

System 2 is our slower, logical, deliberate and effortful ‘thinking’.

Between them they create our decision-making processes. What’s abundantly clear is that while we like to think our thinking is in charge, most of our decisions are actually made intuitively by System 1, with System 2 supplying a justification after the fact.

A dense read but very worthwhile.
